We’re showcasing Garret Larson, one of our newest team members! Garret has been a Software Engineer with us since early March and has been rocking projects for our clients.
Garret started out studying in the medical field before making the jump to computer science. He started his general studies at Bismarck State College followed by Chemistry at the University of North Dakota. He shifted his focus from working in biomedical science labs at UND to trying his hand at math and computer science courses. He found that he really enjoyed coding through his coursework. “It revealed what was behind the curtain of tech applications,” Garret shares. “It’s also challenging. I enjoy the experience of solving something I didn’t think I’d be able to initially.” Garret is actually a graduate of Emerging Digital Academy as well! He is the first EDA alumni to join our ranks. We’re glad he came down the path he did to share his skills and continue learning with the Codelation team!
Garret hails from outside the small town of Almont, ND (And yes we mean actually small. There was a population of 122 in 2010). His family lives on a 5-generation ranch that raises purebred black simmental cattle. This may be where he found his love of being outdoors and staying active. You may find Garret doing yoga, lifting weights, calisthenics, or perhaps running near the Missouri around Bismarck on the weekend. He actually started leading yoga classes on the weekends as a side business! Some of the other things he nerds out about include Lord of the Rings, philosophy (specifically topics that relate to Stoicism, Buddhism, and yoga), and nutrition!
What ultimately led Garret to working with Codelation? He cites the interviews with Erick and company culture as what caught his eye initially. Garret says “Codelation encourages and values individuality, hard work, and a growth mindset”. He notes that he often hears Codelation’s Director of Culture, Erick, say something along the lines of “We’re all constantly learning here”. Garret adds, “and I think that is what makes Codelation a great place”. We’re so glad to welcome another strong engineer on our team, especially one with such great skills and attitude like Garret!
